Brief History about the church
The history of the Church cannot be fully told on this page, but shall be briefly stated. The foundation of the Church can be traced to a group of seven (7) men who met frequently to pray for the revival which God had promised and to usher in the salvation of unbelievers. The group started their spiritual life in one of the Pentecostal Churches in Nigeria (i.e. The Redeemed Christian Church of God) which has its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. They worshipped in a local assembly of the church which was at Ibadan where they were all converted.
These men organized and committed themselves into series of prayer meetings to seek the face of God just like what the Bible said in 2 Chro 7: 14 that; “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.,” God apparently heard there prayers and visited them with revival as promised. God sowed in them great passion and desire to preach Christ anywhere at any costs.
The news got to the leadership of the Church where they worshipped then but they were misunderstood. Consequently, the Church wrote to them to go out where sinners are to fully exercise the deposits of God in their lives. Rev. J.O. Akindolie, the General Superintendent of the church then, prayed for the leader of this group, i.e. Rev. Samson Adebayo Ogundeji with the laying on of hands before many workers of the church in Lagos. This birthed their gathering which was inaugurated on 4th March, 1970. That same day, in the middle of a prayer session, God confirmed the name of the Church.
While still in the prayer session, God, prophetically commanded them to go and preach His Second Coming so that the world, everybody and even the church might be prepared to meet Him. Hence, the name “His Coming Evangelical Church”. Time and space will fail us to talk about the persecution they faced, coupled with the loss of many things for Christ’s sake. But thanks to God, today many souls have been won to Christ through the doggedness in pursuing the heartbeat of The Lord Jesus Christ.
This brief history was given by the leader of the seven men group in person of Rev. Samson Adebayo Ogundeji.
This organization was formerly incorporated and called “Group” but on 28th August, 1978 the word and name “Church” was substituted for “Group” in true reflection of the ministry.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
